Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin

September 29, 2011

Something Borrowed is the first book of Emily Griffin I’ve ever read. I remember one afternoon, I was shopping with Peter when we dropped by Powerbooks at Festival Mall because there was a sale. As usual, I looked at the section of my favorite authors (Nicholas Sparks, Sophie Kinsella, Danielle Steel to name a few) just to see if there’s anything new.

The book started with Rachel (the main character) turning 30. She is a lawyer, single, and super hated her job. When she was a little girl, she imagined her life to be perfect at the age of 30. She and her best friend would be married with kids and living a beautiful, meaningful life. It seemed to be coming true for her best friend Darcy who was engaged at the moment to her perfect  lawyer boyfriend who happens to be the guy Rachel has been crushing on since their days in law school.. yup, they were close and were classmates!

From there, the story evolved and eventually something that’s not supposed to happen, happened and the rest, as they say, is history.

I like the way how Emily Griffin made me hate Darcy  while I was loving Rachel’s character at every turn of the page. A part of me could relate to Rachel since I felt like I had that kind of relationship with my best friend too when we were  in our teens.

Anyway, it’s a very good chick lit and I definitely recommend it.Can’t wait to buy Something Blue, the other side of the story - Darcy’s story. I wonder if I could hate her more? LOL.

My Choice of Ebook Shop

September 27, 2011

I was once again  looking for books to download and I kept coming back to ebook store. I have opened an account with it so I can browse at the numerous books I like, read their corresponding synopses and descriptions, and from there choose what I like to download.

I find it simple yet interesting for an ebook shop.I found myself clicking the Home and Garden category since I’m currently trying to grow vegetable seeds and the site has a number of book collection on it. I click on the detail button beside the book and I’m brought to a page where I can read further what the book is all about. If the review and summary gets my attention, I go ahead and download it.

I wonder what next to get? I’m also into religion and spirituality so I’ll probably head there next. Try it!

Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

August 8, 2011

I love Sophie Kinsella. Hence, the moment I found out about her newest creation, I headed to the bookstore and bought it. That was ages ago. I am sad to say that I only got to finish reading it a few days ago and that I didn’t like this book that much. True, it’s still about Becky Bloomwood and her unending battle with her shopaholic disease, but then that’s it. I thought that this time around, it would be more about her little 2 year old daughter, Minnie. Maybe I expected wrong. But what can I say, I really thought there would be less Becky and more Minnie.

Search for the Best Ebook Shop

June 23, 2011

I have been contemplating about downloading books from an ebook store instead of buying paperbacks and hardbound books for a while now. One of the sites I came across while weighing down my options was http://bestebookseshop.com/. The site has numerous book categories that customers like myself can choose from. It has books on Engineering, Computer Science, Entrepreneurship (which I love since I like doing small businesses on the side), Economics, Humanities, Philosophy, Architecture, Medicine & Healthcare, Mathematics, Biology & Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Psychology (another favorite topic of mine), Political Science, Education, Business as well as Finance. Because of the variety of categories available, people  like me won’t run out of choices to choose from.

The site is also quite easy to use. With just a click ot the mouse, I can easily browse the books available per category. Once I find what I like, I can click on the book cover and it will immediately lead me to page that tells the synopsis or description of the story, the publisher, the number of pages and the minimum amount. I can also gain trial access to the download feature. If I like it, then I can do a monthly subscipton at a very affordabe price.

I think this ebook store is quite a good deal. It’s easy to use, subscription is at a minimal price and I can gain access to a a lot of books I like. Awesome!

One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell

June 5, 2011

Candace Bushnell’s One Fifth Avenue is such a fun and witty read! It’s the last thing I look forward to reading before I go to bed and my evening rituals have been great since. As soon as 3am would hit the clock, I couldn’t wait to get out of my office so I can prepare for bed and read the next adventures of the powerful women of One Fifth Avenue.

Thor, Avengers, Archie Marries Graphic Novels

May 4, 2011

Ever since I watched Thor last weekend, twice — one in  3D and one on regular cinema, I’ve really been gaga about him. Perhaps it’s because Chris  Hemsworth was really perfect for the role, with his God-like,  uber gorgeous body and those blue eyes to die for. Natalie Portman was an awesome Jane foster too! I didn’t at all see her Black Swan character in there (unlike Jennifer Aniston for instance who pretty much acts like Rachel Green of Friends in almost every role she portrays). Even Kat Dennings was awesome. A few hours before I watched Thor in 3D, I watched Charlie Bartlett at home where  Kat Dennings also starred and it’s amazing how she transformed into this cute political science sidekick of Jane Foster in the movie as opposed to usually being slutty or flirty in some movies she starred in.
